Obituary for Major (Ret.) Jackie Wayne Dickens

Retired Major Jackie W. Dickens, 74, of Elizabethtown, KY, passed away Sunday, August 5, 2018 at his home.

He was born March 16 1944 in Louisville to Katherine and Walker Dickens. He was a graduate of Southern High School and Western Kentucky University. Jack served for 20 years in the U.S. Air Force. After retiring the family lived in Florida where he worked at Hibbs Auto Restorations and later moved back to Kentucky where he maintained his rental properties. Jack enjoyed car clubs, fishing, hunting and boating on Lake Cumberland. His greatest joy was spending time with his family and friends, especially those in his poker and dance groups.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents, Pearl and Harry Corum and Verda and John Dickens.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Sandra Shacklette Dickens; a son, Shane Dickens and granddaughter, Jessica both of Bowling Green, KY; a sister, Elwanda Aro of Shepherdsville; two brothers, Mike Dickens of Louisville and Phil Dickens of Sugar Grove; a stepmother, Pearl Dickens of Louisville; two nieces Michelle and Jenny; four nephews, Troy, Jeff, Dean and Wade; several cousins and many dear friends.

Jack chose cremation. A committal service will be held at 12:30 P.M. Friday, August 10, 2018 at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery Central in Radcliff, KY, with military honors.
