Obituary for Jose Indalecio

MSG (Ret) Jose R. Indalecio, 86, passed away peacefully of natural causes in his home surrounded by his loving family. He reported to his heavenly Father on February 8, 2018.

Jose was born in Hagatna, Guam, USA on March 15, 1931 to his parents, Vincente Indalecio and Rosario Rojas. Growing up during the privations of the Great Depression and the brutality of the Japanese occupation during World War II, prepared him for many future life challenges.

He met and married his high school sweetheart Rosalia B. Toves on October 17, 1953 and enjoyed 63 years of marriage. Jose enlisted in the United States Army at age 19 and began an extraordinary career that spanned two combat tours in the Korean War in 1951 and the Vietnam War in 1967. His army career took him to many posts including the United States, Korea, Okinawa, Hawaii, Germany, Vietnam and Thailand. Retiring after 24 years from the United States Army, he further served his country in the Civil Service as an instructor at the Armor School at Fort Knox, Kentucky. Retiring after 20 years in the Civil Service, he focused his time on family, grandchildren and hobbies.

Jose loved to fish for bass and trout or anything that “bit my line”. Gardening vegetables and planting trees that bore fruit were passions of his. He was a backyard all American grillmaster enjoying almost every weekend, a dinner of grilled steak and chicken with his friends and family.

Jose was an active member of the Knights of Columbus and St. Christopher Catholic Church, where he was a key member of fund raising to build a new church.

His beloved wife, Rosalia, preceded him in death in October of 2016.

Jose is survived by his three children, Mrs. Patti (Eric) Miller of Concord, NC, Mr. Joe V. (Lori Vessels) Indalecio of Elizabethtown, KY, Ms. Pauline (Jason Ray) Indalecio of Burlington, NC; six grandchildren, Mr. Brian T. (Aliceson) Miller of Concord, NC, Ms. Natalie N. Miller of Kannapolis, NC, Mr. Samuel M.T. (Laurabeth) Vessels of Lexington, KY, Mr. Joseph N. M. Indalecio of Elizabethtown, Ms. Katlyn E. A. Indalecio of Elizabethtown, and Ms. Catherine R. McGuire of Burlington, NC; and three great-grandchildren, Ashton T. Miller, Savannah R. Miller and Jackson H. Phillips.

The mass of Christian Burial is at 11:00 am on Friday, February 16, 2018 at St. Christopher Catholic Church in Radcliff, KY. Burial with military honors will be in Kentucky Veterans Cemetery Central in Radcliff.

Visitation is from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Thursday with a prayer service at 7:00 pm, and after 10:00 am on Friday at the funeral home.
